Project 365: Week 13

April 1, 2012

Week 13: March 25-31st

On Sunday I did find the church sign changed. It read “Have you read the story God is telling?”

I also took this picture of Crook & Heddie visiting me in my office. Cassie never really did this except at the end. It is nice to have them hang out with me. I’m sure when DH is home they will stay in the family room with him but for now it is fun. They even brought me the duck!

Office Visitors: Crook & Heddie keep me company

I’ve been driving by this fire station for years. This little statue and memorial honor the volunteer fire fighters and EMTs in our community.

The next two are in my massage therapist’s office.

Tranquility... setting the mood for a massage

I do like peacock feathers … just not peacocks themselves during mating season. Visit the Philly Zoo on a scout sleepover and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

I love Peacock feathers

These pirates were set up in the food court for a special reading and anti-bullying program … three months ago. Why are they still here?

Ahoy there shoppers... ready for some pillaging?

Clown feet. Gives me the willies!

I'm not sure giant red feet all over the mall are going to convince a person who has a clown phobia that she wants to shop in your shoe store.

In the bright florescent lights, with no crowds around, the Easter bunny and his entourage look a little dusty and sad. Glad we really never got into the bunny pictures … wouldn’t be thrilled to take them to this display.

Sadly, this picture opportunity was looking a little sad and time weary. I hope they plan to change it out next year.

Writing Workshop: Scared Silly… still

October 26, 2011

3.) Something that scared the Hell out of you when you were a child. (inspired by Mama Sick)

I chose this prompt and want to dedicate it to the 4th graders who, while in the girls’ bathroom, told T2 all about Bloody Mary and Chuckie… resulting in T2 having a sleepless night last night.

Scary movies. Two in particular. Poltergeist and Halloween 2. As much as I love Halloween and do enjoy a good scream in a haunted house, I cannot enjoy horror movies.

I think we watched Poltergeist as a family. We did that back then—rented a VHS tape from VideoWorld. (How’s that for dating myself?) I think my mother was very cautious but I still insisted on watching. And yup, bad dreams abounded! (I still find myself shuddering when I see the commercials for Paranormal Activity 3 and the children moving all over…)

I was older when I saw Halloween 2. It was summer. I hadn’t even seen the first one. Maybe I was 6th or 7th grade… my neighbors had cable and one of them and I were done swimming for the day so I was invited over to watch it. What. Was. I. Thinking??? I spent the entire summer making sure I never had my back to my window—which was level with the ground as we had a partially sunk foundation—and left my closet doors open at all times, and every time I went into the bathroom I flung the shower curtain open. Not sure what I would have done if Jason was standing there but hey, at least I wouldn’t have been caught unawares. It was so bad that we children were playing hide and seek and I found my brother in the shower, looked at him, was about to say “Caught ya!” and he goes “Boo!” and I screamed so bad I probably burst a blood vessel or two. (But this is why I love haunted houses—to get a scream like that again!)

Stephen King’s It also scares me. I do NOT like clowns. That is like the ultimate haunted house scare for me. And they know it, like I have a big ol’ bull’s eye on my forehead or back or whatever. I’m an easy scare.

Writing Prompts:

1.) Last week we wrote about what we have never done…this week write a list of 22 things you HAVE done. (inspired by Sellabit Mom)
2.) Write about the last item you looked for. Why did you need it?
3.) Something that scared the Hell out of you when you were a child. (inspired by Mama Sick)
4.) Describe something you did with your spouse when you dated, but that you’re now “over”. (Inspired by Scary Mommy)
5.) Do you have little ones dressing up for Halloween? It’s time for a costume share! What are they going to be?
