Eye of the Tiger!
I have been with a personal trainer for more than 18 months. I am doing this because I woke up at 35 and realized I would be diabetic by the time I hit 40. There is a family history and I was gestationally diabetic with T1 and inconclusively not with T2. It is not a matter of if I’ll end up with diabetes, it is a matter of when. DH and I feel that the benefits of hiring the trainer now outweighs the medical bills later.
I pay the trainer, whom I affectionately refer to as the Torturer, only and not a gym. I’ve done the gym and trainer combo before. I am just not a person who will work out on their own consistently. There is something about these standing appointments, some accountability. And he’s flexible so if I need to come in early or change days due to a sub job, it works with my life.
And it is old school. Lots of free weights, body weights, muscle confusion, running. And there are no mirrors and no skinny women on treadmills that I want to slap.
Early last year I had a cousin who would post E.o.t.T. as his FB status every time he went to the gym. He had a resolution to go for 100 days. It was inspirational and I borrowed the idea for while. It was a little more positive than posting “going to torture” all the time.
I am creating this page to try something–to see if this keeps me a little more honest in my eating habits and if it helps get over some plateaus.
DISCLAIMER: I am not an expert. ALWAYS consult a physician before starting an exercise routine. I cannot be held responsible for any injuries resulting from trying anything written about here. Many of these routines require a spotter, preferably one stronger than you!
DIET: The torturer has me on a “short-term” diet. One that I would be able to get off of if I reached my goal weight and stopped cheating. Often I walk into a session feeling like it’s confession–“Forgive me, Torturer, for I have eaten…” Hey, it’s job security if you ask me! And muscle weighs more!
Low carb–only rice, oatmeal, red skin potatoes, and sweet potatoes allowed.
No dairy. No fruit.
I’m new to blogging so I’m going to see if I can add posts to this page alone without on my home page. Once I figure it all out I’ll fine tune it and add posts on the workouts, diet modifications/cheats, and progress.
